Evaluation

The purpose of this project was to create two characters for Urban Legend of the given choice. We were given several urban legends to choose from, I believe, this was an
 advantage of the brief.
I undertook wide research which enabled me to produce my final pieces. Please refer to my blog http://urbananza.blogspot.co.uk

Each character that I have created is solely my own interpretation. In my final looks I have incorporated a variety of new media and techniques that we had an opportunity to learn in the Make up and Hair classes over the last couple of months. Also, I learnt other techniques independently.

My first character was heavily inspired by a composition of great females warriors. Famous heroine Joan of Arc - she was a strong girl wearing the armor of a soldier who later gets executed. 5th Element Leeloo - who comes to Earth to protect humans with four elements. And English language film adaptation of Stieg Larson novel “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” character Lisbeth Salander. My version of the Bloody Mary No.1 is that she is fierce, highly driven, and there is a great sense of innocence to her too. Her actions can be justified, as she is motivated to fight what seems for the “right cause”.
My second supernatural character is inspired by “ if beauty can kill” phrase. She is a combination of  a seductress and and deadly dangerously woman - femme fatale, lady vamp type. She has ability to hypnotize the victim with her beauty. I’ve came up with the Drop Dead But Gorgeous paraphrasing. Similar to the first look, this interpretation of the Bloody Mary is a powerful woman, not a victim. Some of the prominent references for this look is a thriller “Femme Fatale” featuring Rebecca Romijn and Antonio Banderas. Secondly, Poison Ivy from Batman. I also looked into Greek, Roman mythology which I love a lot and the Greek Goddess Aphrodite (Venus - Roman equivalent). Similarly to the Bloody Mary one of the symbols of Aphrodite is a mirror - as a symbol of self love and beauty.

I really enjoyed working on this project. I feel that I was abled to come up with a unique interpretation of the Bloody Mary, which is what I was aiming for to produce this project.

There were of course few hiccups during the process of creation which did not at all discouraged me. Moreover, I feel that constructive criticism which I received from my tutor has aided me to produce a much better outcome. I feel I will never lose my enthusiasm and passion to create. But quite opposite my determination and positive attitude is driving me to exist. With my new skills and knowledge that I am acquiring on my course there is no stopping me :-)

I am looking forward to my second year. Bring it on!
