Drawing attention to females' issues

My first Design Research and Ideas

Both central characters from "Girl with the dragon tattoo" and "the 5th element" are thin framed yet strong characters.

Creative Immigrant Song (Tittle Sequence)
Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Karen O re-imagine Led Zeppelin's classic rock tune for David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo":

Lisbeth (Noomi Rapace) is pale skinned with raven colour hair, very short cropped fringe, bleached eyebrows, lots of piercings and tattoos. The look in her eyes is both gloomy and vulnerable, moreover, the nudity scenes and shots seems to undermine her toughness.

Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) "...everything you create, you use to destroy"

"Me fifth element - supreme being. Me protect you."

I love Leeloo, she is perfect and sweet warrior. An outfit of gold pants, a white cropped top and orange braces was designed by John Paul Gaultier. She is more dangerous warrior than she was at the begining wearing just white "bandages".

Similarly, for my first look of Bloody Mary interpretation I would like to create a character, mysterious female, with the variety of gifts and, in essence, someone you would not want to mess up with

My First Look Story Board:

IRON LADY idea - Georgia May Jagger by Photographer Terry Richardson for US Harper's Bazaar (Sept 2011):
She play here former prime minister Margaret Thatcher:
Love this knight's body armor - Iron Maiden- idea:

Stephen Meisel:

If to compare Greek Goddess Aphrodite of love and beauty (Venus - Roman equivalent) to Mary they share similar traits and physical beauty.
Mary is a strong female, she has to always prove her worth.. She doesn't let the past accident (before her horrific death) from fulfilling her duty of being drop dead but gorgeous. Her love is self love (narcissistic), she cannot see the world around her.
Nevertheless, Mary is admirable; she is perfect representation of all of us from the inside, and not the way we seem to the rest of the world

Beautiful Beyonce (by one of my favorite photographer Alexi Lubomirski for UK Harper Bazaar Sept'11), as always amazing. Her almond shape eyes are phenomenal, make-up is stunning, it is showing off her deeply defined black eyeliner. Strong eye brows and nude shade lips looks great on her skin tone.
Her look is beautiful and powerful and seductive, just what I need for my inspiration (2nd look femme fatale):

Finger Waves

Finger waves were developed in the 1920's to add style to, and soften the hard appearance of the bobbed hairstyles that became very popular during the flappeer period. The same time as the status of women was gradually changing politically and socially. Since then, short hairstyles for women got shorter and shorter. And as women became bolder, politically active, and too busy being a wage earner, wife and housekeeper, short hairstyles have become a necessity for women.

Many Hollywood movie stars wore the latest finger waves which added to the popularity and progression of this style.

One of my favorite images is of Josephine Baker and her Eton sleek hairstyle:

Finger waving is molding the hair while wet with water and styling gel into "S"- shaped curves. This curves created using fingers and comb.

Short hairstyles for women continue to be big hit in 2012-13. Celebrities such as Emma Watson, Michelle Williams, Ginnifer Goodwin and Posh Spice have carried their short hairstyle to today.

I like short hair on many women of different ages, this style is hot and sassy if well looked after.

Bloody Mary Legend - Vain Beauty

There are several versions of the Bloody Mary legend. It has been going around since early 1960's.

In short, about 100 years ago or so there was a woman named Mary. One day she had a terrible accident and her face was scratched so badly that she bled to death. But her spirit could not rest. Bloody Mary roams the world as an evil? ghost. If you stand in front of a mirror in the dark and say her name three times, you will see her horribly mangled face appear. If you do not turn on the light and run away as fast as you can she will try to scratch your face off.

The most contemporary superstition associated with this myth about the broken mirror which some people believe will bring you bad luck.

Mirrors and reflections have always been held in fear and consequently been linked to the supernatural, e.g. the ability to foretell the future by looking into a mirror or reflection.

Some people believe that a man's soul is in his shadow, or in his reflection in water or mirror.
 Macbeth, Three witches

in Snow White and the Huntsman

in Snow White, the evil queen

Mirror, Mirror, with Julia Roberts

All of these interpretations suggest that the mirror-obsessed queens were ultimately destroyed by their own vanity. The mirror subject is one of the major elements of the Bloody Mary ritual. Other elements include darkened room and repeating a chant a certain number of times.

There is another variant which is not far away from the central identity of Bloody Mary is the Candyman. The Candyman is featuring the dead spirit of a man. This movie is about a killer with a hook for a hand who is summoned in much the same way as out witch Bloody Mary in the mirror. The story was based on the urban legend and not other way around. Many people still think that there really was a Candyman.

Along with movies and stories there is one classical myth of the beautiful Narcissus, who fell in love with his own reflection and died from sorrow of not be able to love anyone else.
"..he could not tear himself away; he lost all thought of food or rest, while he hovered over the brink of the fountain gazing upon his own image"

Urban Legends Stories

I've created five collages to reflect five of the Urban Legends that I've read:
